We remember that the first principle of combat is the art of mobility. So if I have a good initial position, it remains to learn how to move efficiently, how to hit and how to avoid being hit. The ability to move increases the chances of attacking and decreases the chances of being attacked.
Footwork optimization
Moving in a fight can easily be compared to a dance. A good way to remember how to move your feet (in most trips) THE FIRST FOOT THAT MOVES IS THE DIRECTION IN WHICH I AM GOING
example: – Starting from the initial position, I want to move to the right, my right foot moves first and the left follows to find the initial position.
You should always be in a comfortable, relaxed and balanced athletic position. Try to complete all steps with the same distance between the feet.
The list of feet movements is not that long but takes time to master.
- Step and slide or “Step-Drag” (I take a step and the other foot follows)
- Push step (“Fencing”)
- Shuffle step
- Switch step (I take a step by changing the “orthodox / false leg” side)
- Inside pivot
- Outside pivot
The Step and Slide “Step-Drag”
Pivots
With a good footwork, you can increase the chances of attack and decrease the chance of being attacked. All combat sports have a deep science of footwork. This science is constantly evolving because in each sport, there are trends, new ways of doing things, and new problems to be solved… As for Mixed Martial Arts, there is a greater spectrum of possibilities in the face of footwork and positioning because we can find ourselves facing different style of fighter and the footwork must be adjusted accordingly.
